Archaeological Collection - Egaleo Metro Station
The exhibition inside the metro station presents findings from the excavations conducted along the path of the Sacred Way. The 17 showcases of the exhibition house original objects and copies related to different aspects and activities of life in antiquity. The connecting link of all of them is the course of the Sacred Way.
Findings (Eleusinian horns, offerings, and figurines) from a Sanctuary Deposit present aspects of ancient worship. Objects from cemeteries (tributes) and burial monuments (sections of marble tombstones) along the sides of the Sacred Way, present the ancient burial customs. Other showcases refer to the crops of ancient Athens (excavation of Eleonas Metro Station), the water supply and water resources of the city, the craft activity outside its walls (Eleonas Metro Station), the use of the land and the natural environment of the area, as well as the development of reading and writing.
Of particular interest is the model of a horse skeleton, which drowned in the waters of Kifissos, with the restoration of the excavation section, as found.
The findings presented in the exhibition date from the Archaic to the Roman period.
